Srinagar, February 22 (KNO) : Reacting over India’s move to stop water flow to Pakistan, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai Friday said any change to water supply to Pakistan would have a devastating impact. Sehrai as per a statement issued to KNO termed it not only unethical but “violation of international treaty signed in 1960.” He further added that J&K being a hilly state, stopping water to Pakistan will heavily flood JK, because the state has no storage capacity for trillions of gallons of water. “It would not be just an act of war but a humanitarian crisis as well. And this obnoxious Indian move will have a devastating effect on JK as well,” he said. Sehrai said it is a calculated and deliberate move to punish and deprive people of their universal rights. “Stopping a river means an act of war. These rivers on which millions of population depends for their livelihoods and drinking water, the move would undermine not only Pakistan’s agriculture, which is the backbone of their economy, but it will have devastating ramifications in JK. It will be the most calamitous thing for someone to try that,” he said. Further, Sehrai welcomed Saudi Arabia’s stand where it voiced support for the Kashmiris and demanded that the Security Council act on its resolutions in support of the Kashmiris. “On implementation of UN resolutions by its foreign minister Saudi Arabia as an important member of OIC group on Kashmir has always supported the Kashmir struggle,” he said.(KNO)
